About a week ago I mentioned I found my Grandmother's Silver collection in amoungst all the clutter of my Mom's basement. At first all I found was black, beyound black really, tarnished pieces. As I held them in my hands and squinted to figure out the pattern on them tiny fragments of memories flooded over me.

This silver set was always polished and prominently displayed in her dining room on the buffet table. I remember hearing how she always polished the set along with her silver silverware set before the holidays; it took up her schedule for that day.

It wasn't until I broke out the old tooth brush and polish that I fully understood the patience and amount of time this task took. I stretched my cleaning time over two days due to my daily schedule but I can easily see how adding a silverware set to the mix could cause someone to end up polishing all day long.

As requested, a picture of the set after the polishing. I've found a few markings on them to let me know the manufacturer and design line but to be honest it doesn't matter. They are here to stay and you just can't put a price on that.

  1. Excellent job, my dear! Now, go and get yourself some 3-M Protector Strips. They won't completely keep the silver from tarnishing, but they sure help.

If anyone knows the time spent getting silver polished up nicely, it would be. I swear, I haven't even had time to polish my own because I've been spending all my time polishing up pieces for clients. It's freaking taking over my life! However, I never mind polishing my own pieces that have good memories. I just do it with love. Not so much love for the pieces I don't own.

I also wanted to thank you for your opinion on the surgery post. I think I had already decided last night after making my post. I'm too big a chicken to go with the whole *what if* of surgery I don't need. I'm sure I'll be needing plenty of necessary surgeries down the road, so I think I'll save up my time and strength for that, when it comes.

  2. GORGEOUS! My favorite dishes are the ones I got from grandma. And I use some of her stuff every day in my kitchen--from measuring cups to plates.

    Glorious.

    How beautiful.

I have some pieces of my Grandmother's that I haven't cleaned properly. I need to do that.
