It's been a week of crazy smells in our house. I've been multi-tasking; desperately canning goods from our garden before everything dies from frost and decorating neglected rooms. I'll let you in on what hubby's up to later this week.

My tomatoes are changing from green to a pukey green/yellow but I fear our 50 degree evenings will zap them any day and turn my garden into a pile of crispy brown nothingness. Nipping that situation in the bud, I've been picking puke green tomatoes and letting them ripen in the house. I know, vine ripened tomatoes are the best but it's like the Antarctic here lately so it's what we've got to deal with.

Any who ~ I was able to can two (yes a whole two) jars of spaghetti sauce and 5 jars of dill pickles this week all while varnishing my Little Man's new desk.

If only we could have one week of warm weather. Sigh.

Do cucumbers normally grow twisty? WTF?

Looking at the desk you wouldn't guess it took 3 weekends of window shopping at 20 various stores (including our local thrift stores). We finally gave up and went to the not so local bare wood furniture haunt. Little Man picked it out and declared it had to match his existing bedroom furniture (natural oak). So I've spent all week sanding and applying three coats of varnish.

At least Sponge Bob & his friends are enjoying the desk.

Needless to say the canning smells and varnish smell was over the top this week. SO good yet SO nauseating!

I'm off to take some shots of hubby's work for you.

  1. Your canned goods look wonderful! ♥ You're lucky for the cool evenings! It has been so terribly HOTHOTHOT here. Had to change clothes three times today, trying to cool down as I worked.

  2. I love it that you're canning as much as you can - Good for you!

I think everything you grow that doesn't have pesticides & such, are often misshapen. The non-organic are the perfect ones.... So, it sounds like ya done good!

    ;-)

  3. Look at you all crafty and handy over there. I am sitting eating Andes mints. Want a picture?
