The past couple of weeks we have been working on our master closet redo. When we built our house custom closets were not in the budget so we ended up with builder grade closet organization consisting of the single pole and shelf option. We also thought one light fixture would work for the space, we were wrong.

If you've been reading along you know we completed Dearest Daughter's and Little Man's closet not to long ago. I'm excited to begin showing you the process of our master closet redo. Here's my side of the closet partially cleaned out; all my OCD tendencies can be identified by the color coding.

After the pole and shelves were removed a bit of spray texture repair was in order.

This weekend I spent a lot of time painting the closet. I decided to stick with shaker beige instead of going for a bolder choice. The thought process involved possibly not liking the paint color once the cabinetry was installed which would make repainting an absolute nightmare.

I hope to have some updated photos with the new paint and the beginning installation of the metal cleats needed to hold the cabinetry for you soon. Hang tight!

If you've been reading along, or searched the blogs for closet organization and landed here, you've been subject to our closet organization and re-vamping process. So far we've re-designed our linen closet, Dearest Daughter's closet and our Little Man's closet. This weekend hubby began the design process  while I began the long process of clothing elimination and hanger replacement for our closet.

It all started with researching what color we wanted our closet to be: white, oak or cherry. We decided we are worth it and chose cherry. Quickly I realized while white plastic hangers work, why go through the expense of using cherry if you are keeping white plastic hangers ... I repeat we are worth it. Thus began the hunt for reasonably prices cherry hangers. If any of you have every priced out cherry hangers for your closet you now are laughing with me.

I was able to find solid wood suit hangers in a cherry finish sold by the box but found these hangers did not include a grip strip for clothing. What's a grip strip? A grip strip is a small piece of rubber or tacky like substance applied to hangers (think dry cleaner hangers) to ensure clothing does not fall off the hanger easily. Well, when there's a will there's a way is what my Grandmother used to say so off to the local craft store I went.

After much discussion with the employees we came up with a possible solution: stick-it craft felt. Here's a quick tutorial on the process:

1. Supplies: Stick-it craft felt, wooden hangers, marker, ruler & scissors.
   
2. Measure twice - cut once. 
 
3. Peel & stick.
   
 4. Finished!
